The Algarve Energy Park concept represents a comprehensive vision of sustainable living that will create a  collaboration platform. The Center for Sustainable Energy Systems and the Energy Experience Park are two main components of the Algarve Energy Park that will aim to integrate education, research, development and accelerated implementation of innovative renewable technologies into mainstream society.

The function of the model cluster concept intends to work with academic institutions, as well as governmental, industrial and public sectors. Therefore viable and efficient alternative energy innovations that surface from research and development can be demonstrated at the Energy Experience Park for both the public and streamlined on a large scale with the collaboration of industry. With this type of synergistic approach, the Algarve Energy Park brings the potential for economic growth to the renewable energy market within Portugal while magnetizing the support of leading companies and institutions worldwide.

The design of the model cluster community will exemplify the principles of living a sustainable lifestyle. This includes a focus on energy and water conservation as well as a goal of maintaining an invisible carbon footprint. Use of state-of-the-art infrastructure potentially including - but not limited to - photovoltaic (PV), solar thermal, wind energy, bio-fuels, electric car charge ports, gray water for irrigation, smart grids, and xeriscaping will demonstrate a real-time ability to sustain quality of life with the usage of conservation practices and renewable energy sources.

The cluster will work in strong alignment with the EU´s 7th Framework Program, and effectively engage general public into science and technology development. Backed by Portugal´s strong sustainability track record, and its favorable geographical location, the project will undertake to participate in key efforts like  introduction of electric vehicles, and the advancement of Personalized Medicine, while enhancing public understanding, and stimulating individuals' engagement in addressing these global challenges.
