The Algarve Energy Park aims to become a model sustainable cluster community, designed to attract leading companies, projects, scientists and thinkers within the renewable energy and preventive health care sectors.

The community will be planned and developed based on cutting-edge design, technology, systems and materials, including those that are available now and which are currently being developed, with a view on minimizing the environmental impact and becoming a showcase for European sustainability leadership.

The master plan of the community will incorporate a hierarchy of central places, functional clusters, districts, nodes and neighborhoods, and will be supported by an effective sustainable infrastructure emphasizing transit and walkways, minimizing impact on the natural landscape and allowing for adaptability to future technological advances.

The cluster sustainability principles will be reflected, amongst others, in:

• Engineering systems design and implementation

• Sources of energy selection and on-site renewable energy production

• Built-in adaptability to the technological changes and innovation throughout the community

• Promotion of alternative transportation possibilities (low or zero carbon)
